Game studio and digital products

An independent studio in Tallinn, Estonia. We make games and apps for phones, tablets and PCs, and explore new software ideas of our own.

Games

Billiards, table football, an outdoor walking game and Italian card games for Android, iOS and Windows. In most you play against the computer, and in several also online against other people.

Apps

Alongside the games we publish apps. For now there is one, for playing and learning the piano.

Grand Piano Studio's start screen: three cards, Learn a piece, Explore a piece and Free play, a list to continue Für Elise, and the panel for connecting a piano.
The start screen: learn a piece, explore one, or just play.

Music · Android, iOS and macOS

Grand Piano Studio

Play your piano and watch it become sheet music. Connect a digital piano or MIDI keyboard, or play on the screen, and both hands appear on the grand staff, note by note.

  • Learn a piece bar by bar, with every note marked right, early, late or missed
  • Explore a piece: slow it down, loop a passage, mute a hand
  • Free play, written down as you go
  • No ads and no account; your music stays on your device

Research & development

Alongside the games and apps we develop ideas of our own for new software, in any field where we see something worth building. Here are two examples, both in active development and not yet released. For each project we decide whether to release it as open source.

A digital twin of a bottle-filling line driven by Almian RT, then the engineering tool: the running program with its live values, a typing error caught as it is made, and the program on the machine compared with the project.

Industrial automation · in development

Almian RT

A real-time operating system that turns a standard PC into a machine controller. It starts straight from the PC's firmware, with no Windows or Linux underneath, runs the control program every millisecond on processor cores of its own, and is built to talk to the machine's sensors and actuators over the main industrial network standards.

  • Written in Rust
  • Programs in Structured Text, the language of industrial controllers
  • An engineering tool to write, simulate and send programs
  • Digital twins: simulated machines to learn and test on
Simulated morning traffic in Tallinn: a junction, the list of jams, and a car driven from A to B through the traffic (parts sped up). Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors.

Simulation · in development

City traffic simulator

A model of a whole city's traffic, built entirely from open data: the road network, population statistics, the locations of workplaces, schools and shops, and the public transport timetable. The trips are synthetic, generated by the model rather than taken from anyone's movements. Every car, bus and tram is simulated individually and shown live in a 3D city, with the traffic lights, the queues and the reason each vehicle is standing still. Tallinn is the first city.

  • Traffic simulation with Eclipse SUMO
  • 3D city in Unity
  • Built from OpenStreetMap and public timetable data

About

Almian Software is an independent studio based in Tallinn, Estonia. Our first game came out in 2015. Since then we have published billiards, table football and Italian card games for Android, iOS and Windows, built with Unity, several of them with online multiplayer and rankings. The latest, Chickens Saga, is played outdoors, by walking. Alongside them we publish Grand Piano Studio, which writes sheet music as you play the piano.

In 2026 the studio became a company, Almian Software OÜ, which publishes the games and runs the research projects above.
